5.1 Accessible Assessments
5.1.1 Canvas Quizzes
All question types, apart from hotspot, are accessible by default. For your canvas quizzes to be accessible, we reccomend the following:
-
•
Avoid the question type, "hotspot";
-
•
Use alt-text for all figures;
-
•
Follow guides for colour.
Students who use assistive technology may take longer to complete a Canvas quiz than other students, which may not allign with the amount of extra time their support plans allow. The Web Accessibility Standards advise against time limits on websites for this reason.
5.1.2 Möbius Quizzes
Content produced on Möbius is accessible for screen-readers, and the site is navigable. As with Canvas Quizzes, students who use assistive technology may take longer to navigate a Möbius page than other students.
5.1.3 Homework Questions
If your module uses homework questions as a form of assessment (or supplementary content), it should be compiled using BookML (unless using a web tool like Möbius or Canvas). These assessments should follow the same formatting conventions outlined in this document.
To upload homework questions, follow the same guidance as uploading lecture notes, but select to upload as an assignment rather than a page. You can then have students upload their answers in the same way as usual.
5.1.4 In-person Exams
Alternative formats for final exams and class tests should be provided in line with a student’s support plan. Accessibility guidelines regarding use of colour should still be followed, although alt-text only need to be provided if a student is accessing the questions with a computer.
